Geology finds & O V Gillies designer jewellery shop

This summer there are several projects I'm working on , some of these projects are creative - such as jewellery design and creation, some are more the back end operation of my little studio - such as the development of my new website O V Gillies Jewelry Shop where you will be able to find the full range of all my handcrafted jewelry, it includes such features as browsing jewelry by gemstone or colour, you will be able to see my every jewelry collection as I have imagined it & buy direct through my own website - taking advantage of the unique & individual & personalised options that I have for almost every item I create.

It has been a while since I sold from my own website. The website shop part was taken offline as there always was something I wasn't happy with. Recently, everything has finally 'clicked' into place. There is a lot of work to 'tune' the website and all it's features & fill the sections and categories with my creations, & every little thing requires my personal attention. However, I do think that once my website is complete it will be exactly as I'd ever wish it to be - the best for all my customers.

One of the creative projects I have been engaged in is my search for for unique, unusual, natural crystal, minerals and materials which are also representative of the sea, islands and mountains that I love so much. Misty - florals & jewellery

Was looking out to the hills & the sea this morning and decided to go with a 'misty' theme, then began thinking of spring and the flowers came up, then, for some unexplained reason, jewellery popped into my head ... ;) So here we go, not exactly sure where I'm going with this one, but hope you enjoy it.

Walks & jewellery

I cannot believe how long it's been since my last post! I did spend the time rather well though :) There are plenty of walks on Arran and I'm taking full advantage of that so if I'm absent from Blogger, or Etsy, or Flickr, or Facebook you know I'm probably either at the beach or up a hill. That said, I've also been creating like mad in the last week or so and my head is still buzzing with lots of ideas, although my fingers are taking a strain. I've been posting some (quite a few) new items on Etsy and there are still plenty to come. Needless to say that the two tables that I have for jewellery making are completely covered in wires, beads, soldering equipment, polishing equipment, drilling equipment, oh yes, and did I mention beads? Lots of them. Here are a few pics:

Just thought to let you know that I'll be putting out more listings this week in my Etsy shop. Cannot switch off my brain & it constantly comes up with new designs and variations. So now I have quite a few items in stock (& I also found a few items hidden in boxes!) that I thought you might like to check out. I'm not one to go for any particular design or style, just don't like to be constrained within same forms :) So, if you do have time, come and see. Who knows, you might find exactly what you've been looking for. Or, maybe you'll find something to inspire you. Either way, you're welcome to visit.

Metal Crators

I don't know what is it about the flame and melting metals that completely hypnotizes me. I've long been making my own headpins, and soldering joints, but I also experimented with making metal 'things'. Every time I heat a bit of silver or copper or any other metal to a bright yellow-red, it moves so beautifully, reminds me of all that lava flowing down a slope after volcano erupted. Completely mesmerising. One thing I never felt comfortable with was that after all that movement and play of metal, heat and air, the end result many jewellers go for is far removed from what it looked like when you finish working on it with heat. Personally, I love when the piece that still shows off texture and oxidation, when it still looks like it's been created using hands rather than machines, when it still retains something from all processes that went into creating it - a trace, it's creation history.

Red Berry Collection

I gues I was thinking about Christmas when I came up with this idea, although I hope that the result is also wearable any other time of the year, month, day ... well, any time at all.

Finished making the first set of earrings (will be putting them on Etsy soon). And here are the pics:

Silver was oxidized with Black Salt (a food grade ingredient) which can be seen on the photo with the Silver Shade crystals.

Another writing project!

Etsy shop banner and avatar are re-done. Photos of some of the existing stock re-done and my website is currently getting re-developed. Thought to start a blog just to keep everything checked. Oh, yes, & I have lots of ideas for several collections.

Tried to put off blogging for a while, but with so many things melting about, I couldn't really not do it. So, here we go.
