Newly listed on my website: Pastel Blue Lace Agate Geology Focal Pendant Stone Black Silver Necklace

Pastel Blue Lace Agate Geology Focal Pendant Stone Black Silver Necklace

New creations

As every hobbyist and proffessional jewellery designer knows there are stages and periods of creative inspirations when imagination often flies in directions wild. The results can be great collections or something completely out of wack. My latest flight of imagination is something that has been in my mind and in development in my studio for a while. It's something that is close to my heart as it incorporates my two passions - Art & Mineralogy.

First, is the mini-make-over of the focal semi-precious pendant stone design that I have been selling in my O V Gillies Designs on Etsy shop for a while now. I have updated this design with a long pullover, infinity, chain  & a hand-stamped brass leaf with my maker's name & the name of the stone. The look & style is something of a bohemian city chic - the necklace sits just below your breast & will go well with a more relaxed look, while subtle natural colors & classic design make it perfect to add something unique to a work suit. I choose every stone for each design very carefully - the selection is often influenced by various inspirations, often I take a photograph of the inspiration & include it in the listing. Not surprisingly, living on an island the colours and nature around play a major role in my inspirations. I wire wrap each pendant individually, & hand-stamp each tag myself. This results in characteristic hand-made 'imperfections' & quirky little things the total of which is an absolutely unique piece of jewelry.

Second, is the coming together of my two passions: art and Mineralogy. The result, is the line of Art Canvas Necklaces that feature unusual, interesting semi-precious stones as mini works of art. I love finding stones that represent intricate, complex designs and creations of nature. In Art Canvas pieces I present them on a classic linen canvas. Each stone is natural, untreated & is absolutely unique & each mini canvas is hand-made by me with natural materials - pure linen, wood, raw brass.  I metalsmith each bail & hand-stamp my maker's name & the name of the stone, or a combination of stones, featured in each necklace. There are characteristic handmade quirks in each necklace, & I have used a long oxidised black sterling silver chain to complement each handmade mini Mineralogy art pendant.

These necklaces are now for sale in my O V Gillies website shop where you will also find my other handmade designer jewellery collections and creations.

Geology finds & O V Gillies designer jewellery shop

This summer there are several projects I'm working on , some of these projects are creative - such as jewellery design and creation, some are more the back end operation of my little studio - such as the development of my new website O V Gillies Jewelry Shop where you will be able to find the full range of all my handcrafted jewelry, it includes such features as browsing jewelry by gemstone or colour, you will be able to see my every jewelry collection as I have imagined it & buy direct through my own website - taking advantage of the unique & individual & personalised options that I have for almost every item I create.

It has been a while since I sold from my own website. The website shop part was taken offline as there always was something I wasn't happy with. Recently, everything has finally 'clicked' into place. There is a lot of work to 'tune' the website and all it's features & fill the sections and categories with my creations, & every little thing requires my personal attention. However, I do think that once my website is complete it will be exactly as I'd ever wish it to be - the best for all my customers.

One of the creative projects I have been engaged in is my search for for unique, unusual, natural crystal, minerals and materials which are also representative of the sea, islands and mountains that I love so much. You can see my recent finds & buys that will be incorporated into more primitive & tribal jewelry and geology & mineralogy jewelry in the photos below:

'Snow bound' collection on the Etsy UK Front Page

Was pleasantly surprised today to receive a message from Jay of RedRoadDesign on Etsy that my 'Snow bound' collection has made it to the Etsy UK front page. Many items are by fellow members of Jewelry on Etsy and McEtsy teams so this collection getting featured is trully something special.

First walk up Goatfell in 2012

It's been somewhat stormy lately, but the weather finally decided to have a sunny-and-not-too-windy break, so ... I went up Goatfell :D

Some of the storm damage. Quite a few trees & branches fell off in recent storms. Brodick Castle has closed its park due to storm damage & put up DANGER signs and red tape across some paths. National Trust has cleared the larger damage from the paths.

Part sun, part cloud, part rain weather. It was raining when I took this photo, but the break in the clouds can be seen coming over the ridges. & the start of a rainbow ...

The rainbow was magnificent! Made Goatfell look like a hill.

Almost at the top & the path is blocked by the snow. Mushy, slushy, quite compact, plenty skidding, over foot deep snow over a rocky path, so ... went straight up, cutting across heather, grass & rocks to get to ...

... the top of Goatfell. Great view, freezing wind, lots of sunshine :D

Red Polka Dot necklace made it to Etsy FP

I'm so exited to have one of my creations featured in a wonderful collection by Joanne from PrincessJillian on Etsy front page. This is a second Etsy front page appearance for me since resuming work in my jewellery shops after my MIL's death from cancer this summer, so I'm taking it as a positive comment on all the work I've done in the last four months :)
